March to the Beat of Your Own Drummer
So I'm going to tell you some things that I've realized lately, and what seems to be working for me in terms of setting myself apart from others in my business. It is not a recipe for what you should be doing, but I think the general messages will give you some inspiration to find what will work for you.
I have realized in my time as a Beachbody Coach that with the numerous trainings I Iisten to weekly, that these trainings for me are a guide, and I need to take pieces of information from them, but not necessarily look at them as a step by step how to. When I try to do it the step by step how to way, I find that I'm not quite myself, and feel this pull to do things differently. And hey, this concept has worked for me my whole life. I was commended by a family friend when I was 13 years old for being someone who marches to the beat of her own drummer. I don't care about what others are doing, it's not important to me. I do things the way I feel they should be done. And if someone invites me to do something or go somewhere, I don't ever ask who's going…I ask myself if it is something I want to do, and base my decision on that alone. So what I am finding is that it is ok to recreate the wheel a little, because ultimately that is what will set you apart from others.
BE YOURSELF and RUN & GROW YOUR BUSINESS THE WAY ONLY YOU WOULD.
My next big tip is about being successful in your inviting of new customers to your business. You'll hear a lot about showing a genuine interest in others when you are building relationships, and making it all about them. Compliment them, question them, and find that connection eventually in your conversation. Well, I have found that it really wont work if you don't really have something in common with the person. You can't fake the interest in what they are saying, you really have to feel a genuine appreciation for the person and desire to know them. So what I found is that when I really took a look at myself, my life and where I have been, when I struggled, and what I needed to help me out of that hard time….then I knew exactly who I needed to be talking to…people who are currently someone I used to be, or people who are going through the same stage of life as me now. Those are my focused customer and prospect base.
LOOK WITHIN YOURELF, THE PERSON YOU ARE TO FIND WHO YOU SHOULD MAKE YOUR CUSTOMER MARKET.
The last thing I want to touch on, is that you really need to constantly be tweaking your approach. I think it is every single day that I have an encounter with someone, at least one person, and afterwards I say to myself, dammit, I messed that one up, I shouldn't have said that or come on so strong…I mean, I'm like that in general - whatever I'm feeling pretty much just comes out of my mouth…it's honest, but not always appropriate or kind, I recognize that. So all I can do is store that little reminder in the back of my mind, that the next time I have the same interaction, I will handle myself differently. You have to move on from it quickly, not let it bother you, and be thankful that you had a little learning moment and are now a better person for it. The same goes for your approach with customers. If something isn't working, no one is reciprocating, it's time to make a change! Try different approaches, invite through a different media, change your profile picture…anything to get a new perspective.
YOUR BUSINESS SHOULD CONSTANTLY BE CHANGING IN ORDER TO GET BETTER AND GROW, AS WILL YOU AS A PERSON.
So, What's the common theme in everything I just told you?? Be an individual, absorb the advice and good teachings of others, but create your own as well, because that will set you apart from the pack.
