F-O-C-U-S Follow One Course Until Successful!
This is one of the biggest lessons I have learned in my fitness journey thus far with Beachbody in 2015.
~Have you ever seen an infomercial? ~Ever bought anything from an infomercial? ~Have you ever seen an infomercial for a
Beachbody fitness program?
~Ever bought one of those?
I have...a few actually - seen the infomercials, bought the programs! I'll tell you all about my Beachbody DVD purchasing journey!
Turbojam was the first Beachbody program I ever bought ten years ago. I bought it off an infomercial at 3am after having struggled to sleep with a cold that stuffed up my nose so bad, I just couldn’t lay down without feeling like I was suffocating. You know that feeling? I was so embarrassed when the operator came on the phone, but she assured me I wasn’t the only one ordering Turbojam at that time of day, and that I was actually making a great purchase because she too had actually bought the program…I guess that spunky blondie, Chalene Johnson had roped her in as well!! In the years to come, I also got sucked in by the infomercials for Chalene’s PIYO and Shaun T’s T-25.
I figured these workouts would be great to do at home when I couldn’t make it to the gym during my lunch hour at work. I never did the programs though by the workout calendar from start to finish, nor did I follow any of the meal plans that the programs provided. I really just peppered them in, always mixed up my routine with cardio classes and machines, weight lifting, spinning, yoga and pilates.
In January of 2015, I was frustrated with my body, stalled weight loss and my lack of confidence despite my constant efforts to eat good whole foods and workout regularly at the gym. I think Facebook could feel my pain, because it kept displaying ads for the 21 Day Fix in my newsfeed! So, knowing how much I loved Beachbody programs, and how desperately I wanted significant change, I WENT ALL IN…I asked a friend and co-worker of mine to be my coach and sell me a 21 Day Fix Challenge Pack that came with DVD workouts, portion control nutrition system and containers, a 30 day supply of Shakeology super food protein shakes, and the promise that if it didn’t work, I could send it back and get a full refund! Nothing to lose right? Well…apparently I had something to lose…6 pounds in my first week, and another 4 pounds after that for a grand total of 10 pounds lost in 21 days! I was floored! I went on to lose another 5 pounds before I hit the 60 day mark in my journey. I crushed my goal, and all I did was follow the program – I did 30 minutes of exercise a day, which was less than half the time I spent at the gym prior to that. I ate the correct amount of food from the approved foods list and replaced one meal a day with Shakeology (almost always breakfast in the car on my way to dropping the kids off and driving to work). I also drank plenty of water, tried to get at least 7 hours of sleep, and checked in with my coach for daily accountability. WHY DIDN'T I DO THIS SOONER? How exciting! I became motivated to find another program to see where it could take me. I decided on Body Beast!
Body Beast can be intimidating – before you start it. I happened to see it in the list of programs and was curious. So I searched on Youtube “women and Body Beast” and happened to find a transformation video that absolutely blew me away. This woman dedicated herself to the program, and in 12 weeks went from frumpy and flabby to fitness model! I wanted that! I didn’t have to get it in 12 weeks, but I knew that I had that fire in me to be committed and have faith that my hard work could yield dividends. I was right….I did not lose pounds (and the scale is much less important to me these days), but I lost inches and was able to clear out a lot of old clothes that were way too big for me after those 3 months! Again, I did nothing drastic. I worked out for 30-40 minutes 6 days a week, ate healthy and within my calorie range 80% of the time, and kept myself accountable by focusing on those goals I had at the forefront of my mind.
